Bangor International Airport (BGR) announced today that passenger traffic posted an 8.6% increase.
in March 2005 over the same month the previous year. This marks the best March in a decade for passenger numbers at BGR. Resident airlines at BGR flew 39,162 passengers during the month, as compared to 36,072 during March 2004. Jet traffic accounts for 97% of all seats flown in the market. In mid June, 100% of the flights from Bangor will be on jets with the introduction of Continental Jet Service to Newark.
Bangor International Airport Director Rebecca L. Hupp noted as follows: "Growth this past year has been exceptional and BGR is off to a great start for the first quarter of 2005. Bangor International has emerged as a destination airport for people traveling to Maine and with our competitive prices, jet flights and excellent connectivity, we are a strong attraction to residents of the region. The commitment by passengers to use BGR is a testament to our ever growing air service options.”
City of Bangor Mayor Frank Farrington observed: “We are pleased that the passenger numbers at BGR are continuing on an upward trend. Now with our air service quickly approaching 100% jet capacity, the citizens of the region have rediscovered the ease, convenience and value of travelling from Bangor. Our increased air service options are a tremendous asset to the region.”
Bangor International Airport is a full-service regional airport offering non-stop, affordable jet flights to New York City, Boston, Philadelphia, Detroit, and Cincinnati, with jet flights to Newark beginning in June and seasonal daily service to Minneapolis.
