Bangor International Airport (BGR) announced today that passenger traffic is continuing to grow....
for the fifth consecutive month. The July 2005 passenger figures increased 11.3% compared to July 2004, making this the best July on record. Year to date growth is 6.63% compared to the same time last year. The increase in passenger traffic is a direct result of the strength of the local economy, the desire of visitors to travel to the state of Maine, and increased capacity and competition amongst the airlines. Continental Express boasted the largest percentage increase in passengers, 410%, as a result of the upgraded, nonstop flights to Newark.
Bangor International Airport’s Director, Rebecca L. Hupp notes: “It is very rewarding to see that this region’s passengers are using Bangor International Airport in increasing numbers. Our 100% jet service has passengers responding positively. We hope that as our existing airlines see our increasing passenger numbers, they will expand their services at BGR and that we can continue to add new destinations and additional frequencies on existing routes.”
City of Bangor Mayor Frank Farrington observed: “We are very excited about the growth that we are seeing at the Bangor International Airport in recent months. With the addition of new flights, more destinations and increased competition at BGR, the local and regional consumers have more convenient and affordable flights to choose from.”
Bangor International Airport is a full-service regional airport offering daily, non-stop, affordable jet flights to Boston, Cincinnati, Detroit, Newark, New York City, Philadelphia, and seasonal daily service to Minneapolis. The Airport is an enterprise funded entity operated by the City of Bangor, Maine and is supported solely through airport generated revenues.
