The Bangor International Airport announced today that it will once again join forces with other City of Bangor departments and the Maine Air National Guard, as well as, citizen volunteers of the City of Bangor to wage the 2nd annual cleanup on Birch Stream in Bangor. This event is to take place on Friday morning, May 19, 2006 starting at 8:00 a.m., with all interested parties meeting behind the Airport Mall on Union St. in Bangor. Refreshments and beverages will be provided for workers.
Birch Stream has been the object of much environmental testing over the last couple of years and is also recovering from being a dumping ground for area garbage and debris. After the Airport put in a new Deicing Containment System last year, the environmental issues took a turn for the better. However, the City of Bangor with the Bangor International Airport and Maine Air Guard are committed to cleaning up the trash and making the stream a healthier place for the community.
Assistant Airport Director Anthony P. Caruso, Jr. notes: “The Bangor International Airport is a significant piece of the community and we are happy to do our part in helping maintain the environmental balance. We hope that others from the community volunteer as well, in the effort to keep Birch Stream clean and a place that the neighborhood can enjoy for years to come.”
Anyone interested in volunteering to help this clean up effort can call (207) 992-4600 for more information.
Bangor International Airport is a full-service regional airport offering affordable flights to multiple destinations. The Airport is an enterprise funded entity operated by the City of Bangor and is supported solely through Airport generated revenue.
