2nd Annual Birch Stream Clean Up Effort A Success 5/23/06

On May 19, 2006, the Bangor International Airport, as well as, the Maine Air National Guard, and several other departments of the City of Bangor, had a successful clean up of Birch Stream in Bangor.  The event took place from 8:00 a.m. until noon and there were beverages and snacks for everyone working.

All parties met at the back of the Airport Mall on Union St. in Bangor and clean up efforts started immediately.  Everyone involved, took one side of the stream or the other and inch by inch walked the area picking up 2 tons of  debris of all kinds.  Their efforts in the end showed in 95 trash bags filled with kids toys, wood, metal and plastic pieces, 14 tires, a bicycle, a bed frame and mattress, a VCR, a stove and dishwasher, auto muffler, and many more items of the household or trash variety.

Assistant Airport Director and Airport Coordinator for the Clean up, Anthony P. Caruso, Jr. noted as follows:  “We are very happy with the turnout of City employees and Maine Air National Guard members.  The clean up was a success in our eyes and we hope that next year, residents of the City of Bangor will become more involved in the clean up of their neighborhood.  Everyone involved can take pride in knowing that they contributed to bettering a community for others to live in.  A huge thank you to all involved in this year’s effort.”
